In 1992 Dan closed the chapter on his previous band Tribe of Dan. Dan felt he was losing his way after experiencing personal loss, struggles with faith and relationships and was at a point of breakdown. Musically it was time to find a new path and he took himself far away up to Heaven Studios, Dalry, Scotland to exorcise his demons and bare his soul.

The album was released on Sticky Music in 1993 and was acclaimed in Kerrang magazine who stated ‘It sounds like a record that has been crafted by candlelight and mulled wine’ as indeed it had been.

At that time Trashbone Thang marked a significant shift musically and embraced Donovan’s need to find a pure expression by stripping back and exposing his vulnerable darker self.
